Laurent Koscielny had to miss the World Cup in Russia due to an injury, and now he honestly told the media about his mixed feelings during the tournament.

Hardly any player will openly claim that he wanted his team to lose, but Koscielny was brave enough to reveal his true feelings.

"I have a selfish side. I tell myself that I could have been part of the adventure and won the Cup.

"I was really happy for them, but also disgusted. You can not feel like a world champion, as the 60 million French could. It's a strange feeling that during the tournament I wanted them to qualify, but at the same time I wanted them to lose," he said.

The 33-year-old centre back won 51 caps for France, but announced his international retirement following the World Cup. And now he has become quite a controversial figure in France because of his recent claims.

Indeed, probably many players would feel the same way in a situation like this, but most would not tell the truth to the media. But Koscielny did it his own way, and of course many Frenchmen did not like his honest words.
