Another day at Old Trafford, it was another victory for United, the 6th Premier League win in a row. United defeated Brighton by 2-1. With this win, Solskjaer collected his 6th straight win to begin his career at United, the only 3rd manager in the history of Premier League to achieve this after Guardiola for City and Ancelotti for Chelsea.
It was dominating performance by United in-front of their home crowd. One of the best chance came in the 15th minute when Herrera and Young combine to put the ball into Brighton box but Rashford was denied by Duffy block. United waited till the 27th minute for the first goal. Brighton's defender Bong fouled Pogba in the box and United was awarded the penalty. Pogba stepped up and to bring United to the lead.
United didn't wait long to double the lead after the brilliance by Rashford. Rashford got the ball from Diogo Dalot on the box of Brighton. Rashford skipped the defenders before firing it home from a very tight angle. United went into the second half with a two-goal advantage. United created some more chances in the second half. Jesse Lingard and Martial failed to convert those opportunities.
20 minutes before the game ended, United conceded a goal, and once again United was deprived of a clean sheet. Pascal Gross scored for Brighton after United players failed to control an inventive cross from Davy Propper. Brighton then had some more chances but United held to win the game by 2-1.
The win was not enough for United to get away from the sixth. United spent a couple of hours in the fifth but after Arsenal defeated Chelsea later that day, United again dropped to the sixth. But the good news for United is that they are only 3 points away from Top 3. Both Arsenal and United have 44 points each while Chelsea has 47 points. In the weekend, United will travel to Emirates Stadium for the Fourth round fixtures of FA Cup. After this, United will host Burnley and will be looking for the seventh straight win under Solskjaer.
