It was a hard fought battle for Liverpool as they had to see off Brighton & Hove Albion. The Anfield Giants had gone two goals up thanks to goals from the big defender Virgil Van Dijk, but they had to defend resolutely after their goal as keeper Alison Becker saw red. Brighton got a goal back and the reds had to defend stoutly to end the game at 2-1.

The same was not to be said for the defending champions Manchester City as they drew with Newcastle 2-2. Manchester City were without their talisman Sergio Aguero and it showed in the teams display. They were sloppy in play and couldn't convert their chances when they had them. They will need to up their game if they want to compete with Liverpool this season.

With Liverpool's win, they go 11 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table. With the Christmas break fast approaching, it is a lead that Liverpool will appreciate and hope to retain. And if after the Christmas break they are still on top with a large lead like this, them maybe we can finally begin to believe and hope that this could be their year.
