Gerson went to Europe as a 19-year-old when AS Roma bought the young Brazilian from Flumiense. Despite almost 100 matches in Italian Seria A at Roma and Fiorentina, Gerson did not really make his name in Europe, so he switched home to Brazil in Flamengo.

Here, the 24-year-old midfielder has really made his name and Marseille has noticed. The French club has therefore secured Gerson in a deal that costs the French around €22 million. Gerson, who has also been selected for the Brazilian Olympic squad, has signed a contract until 2026. This is confirmed by Marseille.

Gerson broke through at Flumiense and was subsequently sold to Roma in Italy. it played 82 matches for Roma and Fiorentina before returning home to Flamengo. At Flamengo he played 102 matches and won two Brazilian championships and a victory in South America's Champions League, Copa Libertadores.
