Chelsea and Real Madrid have reached an agreement to make a unique exchange. Chelsea will borrow Mateo Kovacic while Real Madrid will get Thibaut Courtois permanently.

Rumors of the transfer of two players have long been circulating in European media. Courtois did not want to return to Chelsea and instead traveled to Spain after his vacation from the World Cup ended.

Meanwhile, Mateo Kovacic also made a small revolt. Kovacic reportedly refused to train at Real Madrid until his future got clarity. Today, clarity arises.

Real Madrid announce Kovacic's transfer to Chelsea. The Croatian midfielder was loaned to Chelsea for a season, possibly without any purchase options at all.

Real Madrid's official statement reads: Real Madrid and Chelsea have agreed to transfer Mateo Kovacic for next season, until 30 June 2019.

It turned out that Mateo Kovacic's loan to Chelsea was only a transfer of Thibaut Courtois. Real Madrid have reportedly been looking for new goalkeepers for several years, their ideal figure is Manchester United David De Gea.

But Courtois turned out to be more determined to move to Spain on family grounds. Chelsea finally gave permission to move to Courtois, with a number not yet announced.

Chelsea's official statement read: Chelsea and Real Madrid have agreed to the Thibaut Courtois transfer, and the transfer depends on the personal agreement and the player's escape from medical tests. If the deal is confirmed, Mateo Kovacic will join Chelsea on loan for one season.
