The UEFA champions league return this night as Chelsea will be at Stamford Bridge to welcome Bayern Munich and it is a game everybody have been looking forward to watch considering the form of both clubs, Chelsea remain the underdog ahead of this game looking at their performance recently and with many of their starting line up out to injuries while on the other end, Bayern Munich is doing pretty fine in the Bundesliga, occupying the first position with 49 points and with a player like R. Lewandowski leading the team against the Blues tonight, it is really going to be a busy day in the Chelsea defense. He has scored a total of 25 league goals and 10 goals in the champions league compared to all the goals scored by Chelsea strikers all together, Lewndowski had played 41 matches and had scored 51 goals in all competition and with the Blues yet to find answer to the way they concedes goals, it may just be another night for the Poland striker to increase his goal tally.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will have to think about his selection in terms of who will start upfront between Tammy Abraham and O.Giroud, the latter was so brilliant in his last two games scoring in both outing, although his goal against Manchester United was ruled out but his goal against Spur put the team ahead before Alonso doubled it. After missing much of the Blues games this season with Tammy Abraham becoming the first choice striker, Giroud has shown in the last two games while the manager can still give him some chances to prove himself before the season runs out. Chelsea will be going into the game tonight with a boost of winning Tottenham in the league on Saturday while Bayern fought so hard to secured the 3 points against Paderborn.
Possible Line Up
- Chelsea
Caballero, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, James, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso, Willian, Mount,Giroud
- Bayern Munich
Neuer, Kimmich, Alaba, Hernandez, Odriozola, Tolisso, Thiago, Davies, Coutinho, Gnabry, Lewandowski
This is not the first time both sides will be meeting and their last two meetings has been decided by a penalty shootout with both teams winning one each, so it will be very difficult to rule Chelsea out of this game because the team knows how to survive against tough opponent at this stage of the competition. Looking at the only time Bayern visited Chelsea at home which is dated back to April 2005, it was a 4-2 scoreline where Lampard secured the win for the club with his brace and tonight, he will be watching the game as the manager of the club. Bayern Manager Flick may go into the game with a three man defense but Chelsea must be very careful not to allow what happened to Tottenham when the German champion visited them at home, it was a 7-2 scoreline.
