A Win for Norwich

Norwich grabbed full three points winning a game against Birmingham this week. The game was played at Carrow Road and the home side won with three goals scored in the first 25 minutes of the game. Birmingham City managed to score an equalizer after the first Norwich goal but never threatened the home side. With the win, Norwich City reduces the gap to one point from the table toppers Leeds United.

Leeds United were stunned by Stoke City with a 2-1 win which saw the title race pretty open among the top five sides in the Championship. Sheffield United’s loss to Swansea and Middlesbrough draw against Millwall nicely shaped the top 5 teams of the Championship table. Norwich City should be pretty confident going against Sheffield United next week. I was happy with Norwich's clinical performance at Carrow road. I was not the only happy person as our manager Daniel Farke also shared that during the post-game press meet.

How was the Game?

It is hard for me to imagine Norwich City in winning terms at Carrow road once again. They had injuries to deal with and some regular players were missing this game. But, the team never showed the lack of discipline and professionalism. Right from the start, the home side showed their attacking intent and were pretty aggressive.

As our manager said, the match was almost decided in the first half with three Norwich goals.

The first goal was scored by Pukki after he received a low cross in the D box. It was a goal for your eyes. The goal could not be celebrated long by the home fans as Birmingham City equalized a minute later with a superb finish from Che Adams. Tim Krul was beaten near his post and Adams scored a cracker with a tight angle finish. However, the goal did not dampen the mood of the home team. Vrancic fired one from 25 yards on the right hand corner of the goal with no chance whatsoever for the Birmingham goalie. Norwich continued to push after that second goal and managed to score through a header three minutes after.

Second half was much more subdued and Norwich City controlled the game really well. In the end, it remained 3-1 and Norwich gathered full three points to reduce the gap with the table leaders Leeds United.

Promotion Prospects

With the win, Norwich are raising the promotion hope. I am really excited with the prospect of premier league (and why not). Leeds and Sheffield lost their game and Norwich was the only team at the top of the table to gather points this week. They are playing with confidence and the coach is using the players very well. The team is looking like a top-flight team and Hernandez is playing superbly in the flank. Our home record this season is pretty solid if compared with others. If we manage to win the next fixture then the gap with Sheffield will be six points, which is huge.

Championship table is shaping up nicely and it is becoming clear who will be in the playoffs. Continuation of current form may ensure Norwich City’s chances of promotion. Reading, Bolton and Paul Lambert’s Ipswich are languishing at the bottom with relegation prospects.
