Atletico ave reached an agreement with the club icon to extend his existing deal until 2021 after turning down the chance to join Manchester United

Diego Godín will be an Atletico Madrid player until 2021. According to 'Marca', Atletico have tied down one of their captains to a new three-year deal. All that's missing is the official statement from the club.

Godin has been one of the most wanted players throughout this summer transfer window after his buyout clause dropped to a very cheap €20m. One of the last teams to make a bid for the defender was Manchester United, who offered him €9m per season, but the 32-year-old rejected the chance to swap Madrid for Manchester.

On Sunday, Godin completed eight years as an Atletico player. With 350 matches under his belt for Diego Simeone's team, he's the most decorated foreign player in Atletico's history.

Godín has picked up seven titles at Atletico and scored some important goals. Now that Gabi has left the club, Godin is the captain as he looks to lead Atletico on their quest for Champions League glory.
