The Serbian midfielder has put pen to paper on a new contract which will keep him at the club until June 2023. Matic joined United in 2017 and has made 114 appearances for the club.

There were doubts over the midfielder's form , as he struggled to be in the regular playing XI after a slow start to the season by the Reds, but he has definitely turned corners and the Serbian now has been a key for Ole's side during the current unbeaten run. And thus, have been awarded a new 3 year deal.

This is what the Serbian had to say : "I am very happy that I will continue to be part of this great club.As a player, I still have a lot more to give and achieve in my career and to do that with Manchester United will be a huge honor. This is a really exciting team to be part of, we have a good balance of youth and experience within the squad and there is great comradery amongst the group. This is a key part of the season and we are playing well. We will continue to fight to finish the season on a high and make our amazing supporters proud ".

Manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer said he was"delighted" Matic has extended his lead, adding : " I know his experience, professionalism and leadership will be invaluable to this young talented group. We have great strength in midfield and Nemanja’s attributes are a key part of that."

"Nemanja has been here for three seasons now and really understands the values of playing for Manchester United."

"He remains hugely ambitious and determined which will be vital as we look to achieve our aims over the coming years."

United have kept 16 clean sheets in the 23 games Matic has started for them this season. His ability to sweep off the ball from the opponents, and cover every inch of grass has made him irreplaceable for the Reds. From helping out the defense to feeding good balls to attackers, Matic has really stepped up his game and fortunately at the right time for the Reds, as they challenge for the Champions league spot.

United currently stand 5th in the league, with their next away game against Aston Villa.

Till then stay safe! Cheers!
