A stadium in Russia used for the 2018 World Cup was shattered by the rain.

Heavy rains in Russia came as a result of the end of the 2018 World Cup finals which ended in Moscow on Sunday July 15, 2018, destroying the building of one of the stadiums there.

"As a result of the rain, a stadium for the 2018 World Cup championship was destroyed," Reuters wrote on Monday, July 16, 2018.

A number of images appearing on social media or television show there is a landslide near the embankment of the Volgograd City Stadium. The video footage also shows a few meters deep holes and pavements covered in mud.

A spokesman for a sports company that oversaw building construction said the stadium was also leaking in several places. "To fix it needs to be watu."

"I apologize to the city government that they invested a lot of money and today, the stadium was washed away by rain," Vitaly Ovchinnikov, 19, a local resident, told Reuters TV.

Volgograd Arena, a stadium with a capacity of more than 45,000 spectators, was built for the 2018 World Cup with a fund of US $ 257 million or approximately Rp 3.7 trillion (exchange rate of Rp 14,371 per US dollar).

"This is not normal, the construction of the stadium is taken from the taxes we paid," said Klainnya citizen Mikhail Nesterenko, 64 years.

The Volgograd stadium used matches for eight teams, including England and Japan who could not advance to the next round.

A spokesman for the Volgograd government told the media in Russia, the downpours are extraordinary and should be dealt with in an emergency. "This happens once in 100 years," he said. The stadium construction contractor, Stroytransgaz, declined to comment.
