Times have never been more daunting for David de Gea. The Spanish international and former Golden Glove winner has been ridiculed across the media and yet he still remains Manchester United’s #1 Goalkeeper. The 29 year old has been an important part for the Red Devils for over 9 years now. But with academy graduate Dean Henderson returning from loan and signing a new contract and 20 year old Nathan Bishop coming up through the ranks, what’s next for David de Gea?

The Spanish shot-stopper has officially crossed Kasper Schmeichel’s record of 112 clean sheets for Manchester United yet his future at the club is still in doubt since Dean Henderson having signed a contract at the club until 2025. With Romero opting out of the club for more game time and the likes of Bishop and Kovar pulling through, what is the future going to be like for David de Gea? Even though David de Gea has managed to keep 13 clean sheets in this season, it’s still not enough for someone of his caliber. Dean Henderson has managed the same number of clean sheets whilst playing for a team who just got promoted to the Premier League. Moreover, De Gea has cost United more than 3 to 4 matches(12 points) because of his obvious errors and mistakes.

Personally, I think Henderson should have been sent out on loan to another Premier League club just to improve himself and let De Gea keep the spot for another season. He has been at the club and has played over 400 games so I think the least he would have deserved is another season to prove if he is worthy of the #1 spot at Manchester United.
