There is wide speculation happening at the moment whether Rory will play his native open , the Irish open. He had said before his best set up before a major is to play the week before. The Irish open is to be held a fortnight before the Open Championship so it is rumoured that he is thinking of pulling out of the Irish Open. This will be a blow for colleague Paul McGinley who has replaced Rory as the open's ambassador and plans to bring some big names to Lahinch next year. Rory has made the Irish open into a major draw on the European tour and the prize money stands at 7 million which is a great purse. In recent years Rory has not been afraid to make big decisions pulling out of the Olympics in Rio two years ago. It will be interesting to see what happens as he plans to play less European Tour events and will focus his golf in America.
