The prestigious Royal Melbourne Golf Club has yet to host one of the most long-awaited golf tournaments in the PGA Tour, the Presidents Cup 2019. In this duel between America and the rest of the world, everyone’s eyes are on Tiger Woods’ list of champions who have the greatest shot at conquering the international golf battalion assembled by contender Ernie Els.

The captains have their work cut out for them, and with both of their rosters officially complete, the competition is definitely starting to heat up. The games officially start on December 9 and close at December 15, giving us a full week of nothing but stellar golf action like what the PGA always gives us.

That said, there’s no doubt that the lineups are no short of PGA royalty. Joined by some of the world’s most renowned golf players our history has seen, we can expect no less than a spectacular show of immense talent and skill. Alongside the Presidents Cup favorites, I’m definitely rooting for these top 3 golfers who have proven time and time again why they deserve global recognition.

Dustin Johnson (United States Team)

Hard to get surprised when somebody like Dustin Johnson ends up getting handpicked by Tiger Woods to be on his team. Spearheading the US team with his professional golf career that can speak for itself, DJ is clearly one of the top golfers for President’s Cup 2019. I mean, if his World No. 1 rank in 2017 isn’t enough to call him that, then maybe his succeeding 64 consecutive weeks of staying in that spot will.

At 35, Johnson has already earned over 20 PGA Tour wins, which are all hall of fame-worthy. He’s inching closer to Woods’ championship belt, having won 6 World Golf Championships and being the first player to each of the four events at that.

Justin Thomas (United States Team)

Justin Thomas is emblematic of the new age of golf supremacy. Turning golf into a professional career at age 20 clearly wasn’t too bad of a choice for Thomas, seeing how well he’s performed in his chosen path. Playing for the American team and also chosen by Tiger Woods to be part of his roster, Thomas is set to dominate the Presidents Cup and his record can back that up.

Also a former top-rank golfer, Justin Thomas earned his spot in the world rankings in 2017 after winning 5 PGA Tour events, the most notable one being the PGA Championship, as well as the FedEx Cup Championship, officially breaking into the Official World Golf Ranking in May 2018.

Louis Oosthuizen (International Team)

Of course, the Presidents Cup favorites aren’t just found on the same side. The competing international team also has its weapons, the strongest of them being Louis Oosthuizen. While most of the PGA hall of fame is branded with the American flag, this South African power golfer is well on his way to change things up. His name started to make rounds when he won the 2010 Open, but that was only the beginning. Oosthuizen placed in the PGA’s biggest events like the 2012 Masters, 2015 US Open, 2015 Open and the 2017 Championship. He’s in the best shape to defeat his American counterpart IMHO.
