On Thursday, February 20th, 2014, Canada defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime in the gold medal game to win the fifth gold medal in Olympic women’s ice hockey history. It was the fourth gold medal for Canada in Olympic women’s ice hockey, as the United States took their third silver medal in Olympic women’s ice hockey with the loss. Switzerland claimed their first bronze medal in Olympic women’s ice hockey with their 4-3 victory over Sweden in the bronze medal game. The tournament was held in Russia, with Sochi as the host city.

Michelle Karvinen of Finland scored the most goals during the tournament with five, while Shannon Szabados of Canada led goaltenders in save percentage at .954.
