Although you see many people over there, you will not get help instantly at the time of the attack. This usually happens in real life. You are on your own. And you have to do something to defend yourself. What if the guy gets hit?

Can you defend yourself moving back?
Yes, you can. In case you cannot move forward for some reason, you can step back as a defense. But stepping back is not going to stop the attacker. He will attack you more. As soon as he sees the attacker picking up the microphone, well, the attacker is not going to sing a song, he can move forward and stop him right there.
If you are in a situation like this, and you cannot stop the attacker at the time of picking up the microphone, you can still move forward when he is about to swing or as soon as he swings, you can get in.
Thinking of breaking the microphone or stick is not a good idea. You can go and get on the stage for a show, but when you are being attacked, this is not a show anymore. So don't do anything to show off. Just make your move that can protect yourself.
