The pitcher who kept the Toronto Blue Jays' Ryu Hyun-jin behind the LA Dodgers for seven years is Kenley Jansen. Born in 1987 and about the same age as Ryu Hyun-jin, Jansen became a free agent at the end of this season.
He is ranked at the top of the FA rankings. It ranks 20th,according to CBS Sports, 25th on Fan Graphs, 25th on Sports Illustrated, and 35th on ESPN. Among free agent relief pitchers,he is the number 2 position after Raisel Iglesias, who renewed his contract with the Los Angeles Angels for 4 years on $58 million.
He pitched 705 innings in 701 games and posted a 37-26, 350 saves, 39 holds, 45 blown saves and a 2.37 ERA. Among active players, his career saves are second after Craig Kimbrel (372 saves) of the Chicago White Sox.According to CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated are the first to mention Toronto as Jansen's expected destination.CBS Sports introduced the expected destinations of major players among the remaining free agents on the 8th and said that Jansen is the best fit for Toronto.
CBS Sports said,Toronto has everything they want, such as strong attack power, 4 solid starters above average, and an enthusiastic fan base, but there is no finish that can lead to the championship. It would be better if Romano appeared in the 8th.
In 69 games this year, Jansen posted 38 saves, 5 blown saves, and an ERA of 2.22. It's safe to say he's still a top-notch closure. In his first full-time season of the year, Romano pitched 63 innings in 62 games, averaging 7-1, 23 saves, 1 blown save and a 2.14 ERA.
CBS Sports evaluated that Jansen lost some light in the second half of last summer when he changed his ball composition, but he is a rare relief pitcher who can win a fairly large contract. Jansen appeared in eight games in the postseason and did not allow a single point.
The average speed of Jansen's main weapon cutter this year is 92.5 miles, the highest since 2017.However,his walk rate is 12.9%, the highest since his debut, and his stamina is also questioned as he has thrown many innings recently.Fan Graphs predicted up to two years and $30 million.
It remains to be seen whether Ryu Hyun-jin will be able to reunite with Jansen again.
