On Sunday, October 23rd, 1910, the Philadelphia (now Oakland) Athletics defeated the Chicago Cubs at West Side Park in Chicago to clinch the seventh World Series four games to one. It was the first World Series championship for the Athletics franchise and the second that was won in Illinois. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. King Cole (Cubs)- P
Cole was the game four player of the game, pitching eight innings while allowing three earned runs with 10 hits and three walks as the Cubs took their only victory of the series 4-3 in 10 innings.
4. Eddie Collins (Athletics)- 2B
Collins earned player of the game honors in game five, driving in two RBIs with three hits as the Athletics won it 7-2 to claim the series. Overall, Collins got three RBIs with nine hits and a pair of walks.
3. Harry Davis (Athletics)- 1B
Davis took player of the game honors in game two, with two RBIs along with a run and two hits as the Athletics went on to claim the 9-3 win. In all, Davis earned two RBIs with five runs, six hits and three walks for a .353 batting average.
2. Jack Barry (Athletics)- SS
Barry claimed player of the game in game three, which the Athletics took 12-5. In the game, Barry hit three RBIs with three runs and three hits. In total, Barry had three RBIs and three runs with four hits and a walk.
1. Chief Bender (Athletics)- P
Bender, who had previously won player of the game during the 1905 series, took the player of the game in game one as he pitched all nine innings with no earned runs, three hits and a pair of walks as the Athletics went on to win 4-1.
