On Saturday, October 9th, 1949, the New York Yankees defeated the Brooklyn (now Los Angeles) Dodgers at Ebbets Field in New York to win the 46th World Series four games to one. It was the 12th World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the 15th that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #28 Preacher Roe (Dodgers)- P
Roe picked up player of the game in game two, pitching all nine innings while allowing no earned runs on six hits and no walks in the Dodgers’ 1-0 win.
4. #42 Jerry Coleman (Yankees)- 2B
Coleman earned player of the game in game five, getting three RBIs with a pair of hits as the Yankees went on to win 10-6 and clinch the series.
3. #6 Bobby Brown (Yankees)- 3B
Brown earned game four’s player of the game honors, picking up three RBIs, one run, two hits and a walk as the Yankees won it 6-4.
2. #11 Joe Page (Yankees)- P
Page pitched his way to player of the game honors in game three, going five and two thirds innings while allowing a pair of earned runs on three hits and a pair of walks in the Yankees’ 4-3 victory.
1. #22 Allie Reynolds (Yankees)- P
Reynolds got player of the game in game one, earning a complete game shutout while allowing just two hits and four walks as the Yankees went on to win 1-0.
