On Thursday, October 10th, 1957, the Milwaukee (now Atlanta) Braves defeated the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in New York to win the 54th World Series four games to three. It was the second World Series championship for the Braves franchise and the 22nd that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #16 Whitey Ford (Yankees)- P
Ford picked up player of the game in game one, earning a complete game with one earned run allowed on five hits and four walks in the Yankees’ 3-1 victory.
4. #9 Joe Adcock (Braves)- 1B
Adcock picked up player of the game honors in game two, hitting one RBI with one run and two hits as the Braves went on to win 4-2.
3. #41 Eddie Mathews (Braves)- 3B
Mathews claimed player of the game in game seven, taking two RBIs with one run and one hit as the Braves won the World Series with a 5-0 victory.
2. #44 Hank Aaron (Braves)- CF
Aaron was game four’s player of the game, as he drove in three RBIs with one run, two hits, and a walk as the Braves claimed a 7-5 victory in 10 innings.
1. #33 Lew Burdette (Braves)- P
Burdette earned game five’s player of the game, as Burdette pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just seven hits and no walks in the Braves’ 1-0 win.
