On Thursday, October 8th, 1959, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park in Chicago to win the 56th World Series four games to two. It was the second World Series championship for the Dodgers franchise and first since the team relocated to Los Angeles. It was also the sixth that was won in Illinois. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #35 Bob Shaw (White Sox)- P
Shaw picked up player of the game in game five, as he went seven and a third scoreless innings while allowing nine hits and a walk as the White Sox went on to win 1-0.
4. #9 Wally Moon (Dodgers)- LF
Moon earned player of the game honors in game six, getting a pair of RBIs with a pair of runs, a hit and a walk in the Dodgers’ 9-3 victory to clinch the series championship.
3. #14 Gil Hodges (Dodgers)- 1B
Hodges took player of the game in game four, earning two RBIs with two runs and two hits as the Dodgers won 5-4.
2. #43 Charlie Neal (Dodgers)- 2B
Neal picked up player of the game honors in game two, taking three RBIs with a pair of runs and a pair of hits as the Dodgers won it 4-3.
1. #53 Don Drysdale (Dodgers)- P
Drysdale, game three’s player of the game, went seven innings with one earned run on 11 hits and four walks in the Dodgers’ 3-1 win.
