On Sunday, October 9th, 1966, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore to win the 63rd World Series four games to none. It was the first World Series championship for the Orioles franchise and the first that was won in Maryland. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #22 Jim Palmer (Orioles)- P
Palmer took the win in game two, pitching a complete game shutout with just four hits and three walks allowed as the Orioles claimed the 6-0 victory.
4. #26 Boog Powell (Orioles)- 1B
Powell grabbed player of the game honors in game two, as he hit an RBI with a run and two hits in the Orioles’ 6-0 win.
3. #20 Frank Robinson (Orioles)- RF
Robinson earned player of the game in game one, driving in two RBIs along with one run and two hits as the Orioles claimed the 5-2 win.
2. #27 Wally Bunker (Orioles)- P
Bunker pitched his way to player of the game in game three, taking a complete game shutout while allowing just six hits and a walk as the Orioles went on to win 1-0.
1. #19 Dave McNally (Orioles)- P
McNally got player of the game in game four, taking another complete game shutout with only four hits and two walks as the Orioles claimed the 1-0 win to clinch the series victory.
