On Wednesday, October 26th, 2005, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston to win the 101st World Series four games to none. It was the third (and, as of this writing, most recent) World Series championship for the White Sox franchise, and their first in 88 years, as well as the first that was won in Texas. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #52 Jose Contreras (White Sox)- P

Contreras earned the win in game one, going seven innings while allowing three earned runs on six hits and no walks as the White Sox picked up the 5-3 win.

4. #20 Jon Garland (White Sox)- P

Garland pitched seven innings on the way to a no decision in game three, allowing a pair of earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks as the White Sox went on to take a 7-5 victory in 14 innings.

3. #14 Paul Konerko (White Sox)- 1B

Konerko scored player of the game honors in game two, as he hit four RBIs with a run and a hit as the White Sox pulled ahead in the series with a 7-6 win.

2. #34 Freddy Garcia (White Sox)- P

Garcia earned player of the game honors in game four, going seven shutout innings with just five hits and no walks allowed as the White Sox claimed a 1-0 victory to clinch the series title.

1. #12 AJ Pierzynski (White Sox)- C

Pierzynski got player of the game honors in games one and three, as he added one RBI with a pair of runs and a hit in game one as the White Sox won 5-3, while game three saw him drive in two RBIs with a hit and a pair of walks in the White Sox’s 7-5 victory in 14 innings.
