RDA welcomes Kevin Lee to Welterweight in May!

Former lightweight champ RDA has been at welterweight since June 2017, and is 3-2 in this weight class. He is coming off back to back losses against the interim champ, Colby Covington, and the current champ, Kamaru Usman.

Fighting at 170 is much healthier for RDA, as the weight cut to 155 was far too much for him. It is rumoured that RDA actually passed out for 3 minutes before his fight against Eddie Alvarez, where he lost his LW title via TKO in round 1. Once RDA then lost to Tony Ferguson in an awesome fight, his move up to 170 was made.

RDA has some huge wins on his resume, such as Anthony Pettis, Robbie Lawler, Donald Cerrone (2), and Nate Diaz.

RDA is now 34 years old, so he will want to do all he can to get another title shot before his career ends.

Kevin Lee is also someone who seriously struggles to make weight at 155, and has finally made the decision to move up. I think this is a smart move, he is only 26 years old and can now focus on his body and training more, over weight.

Kevin was one of the fighters to previously rally for a 165 division, which still hasn't arrived as of yet. I feel Kevin will be much fuller and energised at 170, however, he might be a little smaller than others. But I also think this about RDA, and also Cowboy when he fights at 170.

Kevin Lee is 1-2 in his last 3 fights, defeating Edson Barboza, but losing to Al Iaquinta and Tony Ferguson.

Thoughts

This is a great match-up and Kevin is so young with a very bright career ahead of him, I think he has real potential once he hones in on his skills. He is a great wrestler who can strike. I feel he will want to use him wrestling to pressure RDA - sort of like how Colby and Usman did to him.

I do rate RDA, but I want to see another old school performance from him to convince me he is still a title contender. However, RDA is a legend and always comes to fight!

Respect to both fighters, may the best man win!
