Well folks Chase Elliott did it again! He won a race when I was least expecting it. So far in his career as a Cup driver Chase has won at three different tracks; Watkins Glenn, Dover, and Kansas. Honestly I didn't expect him to win at any of these tracks.
When Chase first started his career as a Cup driver I had such high hopes for him. He had a really good car and finished in the top 10 quite often. He was so close to getting a win in his first season but could never close the deal. I chalked it up to being young and nervous.
Then in his second season he started out pretty good but about mid-season he just couldn't make any moves. He had plenty of opportunities to take chances to win races but he never would take those chances. Maybe it was the pressure of being Bill Elliott's son or maybe it was the fear of wrecking that got to him. Either way he chickened out and cost his team a win multiple times. This wasn't a secret to Chase. In multiple interviews he admitted that he should've taken those chances and won the race. He was very hard on himself and felt like he let his team down.
Finally midway through his third season, when I had almost lost hope of him ever winning a race, Chase won at Watkins Glenn International Speedway. Honestly I thought that it was a fluke. I figured this would be his only win for the season and we'd have to wait until next season to see him win again.
Then, out of nowhere, he wins again at Dover. I was at work and I saw him win just seconds before I clocked in. I was so happy and such a joy to be around that night. There was no reason for me to be surprised that he won. He's had a good car and has been making money moves, I just wasn't expecting it.
This past week at Kansas Chase won again for a third time. I was too busy paying attention to my picks for DraftKings, which didn't do too well, that I didn't even notice that he was running really good. I was throwing a pity party for myself and then out of nowhere I realized Chase was in first place with 13 laps to go. I held my breath, wished, hoped, and prayed that he would win. The fact that he held off Kyle Busch for so long made it even better.
It seems that every time I lose hope or just simply don't pay attention to Chase he comes out of nowhere and wins. Maybe I should stop doubting him, or instead maybe I should doubt him more often so he wins more often. I'm not superstitious but I might just start if it means he wins more often.
