It's a big year for the Los Angeles Lakers this upcoming season. Maybe the biggest year for them over the past decade. They built a strong roster led by the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. This is a championship-caliber team for sure and they can win it all this season.
To add up to that, the Lakers are in a good position for the near future. The 2021 free-agency are full of stars and the Lakers will have a lot of cap space at that time. When that time arrives, they can pursue top free agents and start building another super team. There are a lot of options waiting for them.
The Lakers must first secure and re-sign Anthony Davis and that would give them 62 million dollars available cap space. They can also keep Kyle Kuzma by that time. And no players will be under contract for the Lakers by that time.
By 2021, LeBron James has a player option in his contract while the top available free agents by that time would be the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Blake Griffin, or even Giannis Antetokounmpo. There's a lot of options right there. If James leaves which is unlikely to happen, the Lakers can still pair another star to AD and the Lakers would still be a championship contender.
