In 2018 the Boston Celtics may very well have the deepest roster in the NBA. This means that the players who are participating in this year's Summer League in Las Vegas will earn little-to-no minutes with the Celtics in the 2018 season.

However, there are a few players on the Celtics Summer League roster who found themselves earning playing time last season because of injuries, and are now looking to improve on those opportunities this upcoming season.

One player who finds himself in this situation and has turned heads thus far for the Celtics in Las Vegas is second-year guard Jabari Bird.

Before last night’s game against the New York Knicks, Bird was averaging 18 points, 4.7 rebounds, and two assists while shooting 58 percent from the field in the first three games of Summer League play. Tonight against the Knicks, Bird had 13pts/10reb/4ast/3stl, showing his versatility on the floor, and helping the Celtics get the win in the first round of the Vegas tournament against a Knicks squad led by rookie Kevin Knox who has turned heads as well this summer.

Bird’s athleticism, ability to get to the rim and rebounding are his three most prized traits and could potentially help him earn an expanded role for Boston in 2018.

With Shane Larkin gaining interest from EuroLeague teams and Marcus Smart testing out free agency, either one or both of those players leaving would leave minutes for Bird to obtain.

We all know Brad Stevens can get the very best out of his players, so it’s not crazy to think the former second-round draft pick could have a break-out year depending on what happens during free agency this summer.

Bird is a restricted free agent, so even if he cannot make the Celtics roster, another team will likely grab him quickly and make use of his talents.
