What's up basketball fans! I am here again @dwin0603 to give you another exciting basketball discussion for another episode of NBA Talk, and today we will talk about the New York Knicks and how can they form a new super team this upcoming free agency. Let's do this!
The Knicks failed to get the first overall pick which will undoubtfully be Zion Williamson from Duke. He's the next big thing since LeBron James according to experts and that was a big blow for the franchise. But, despite not getting the first pick, there are still a lot of options for them to form a new super team. Let's break down what are the moves they can do this coming free agency.
New York is tired of the losing years and being in the bottom of the standings every year was very disappointing. But, this year is their biggest chance to climb up to the top of the Eastern Conference and we expect the franchise to be one of the most aggressive teams that will try to pursue the top free agents. They have enough cap space for two superstars but in today's era, two superstars are not enough to win it all. They should at least form a big 3 or else, we cannot call them championship contender in an instant. If you don't agree with me then look at the top teams right now, two superstars are not enough to beat teams like the Warriors, Bucks, Sixers, Raptors or even the Rockets. Now, the first move that the Knicks should try to do is to trade for Anthony Davis.
Despite getting the first pick, AD still doesn't want to stay with New Orleans and still hoping for a trade to happen. So, this is the chance for New York. They still got the 3rd overall pick and that could be Zion's teammate in Duke, RJ Barrett. Zion would love to play with RJ because they already build some chemistry and he would love the idea of having a teammate of his age and the Pelicans can also get Kevin Knox from the trade or even Mitchell Robinson. This will be a blockbuster trade but both teams could be happy with the result. Davis will also be happy to join New York because he can thrive there playing with other superstars like Kyrie Irving or Kevin Durant.
Speaking of Kyrie and KD, New York's next priority should be luring both Kyrie and KD to play for the Knicks and pair them with Anthony Davis if the trade went through. Kyrie is surely bound to leave Boston after 2 failed seasons. He will surely try to sign a max contract elsewhere and according to reports, New York is his top destination. KD, on the other hand, is rumored to be leaving the Golden State Warriors after this season even if they won the championship which is likely to happen.
So, if the Knicks are very lucky, they can have Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis in their roster and that would surely be a championship caliber team, no doubt about it. The Knicks will finally enjoy the franchise's success and the Knicks will rise again and be on top of the basketball world after waiting for so many years. Let's see if they can do it.
