Asian Games 2018 which will take place on 18 August to 2 September 2018 assessed will give significant impact for economy of Jakarta and Palembang as host.
The Ministry of National Development Planning / Bappenas estimates the direct impact of the 2018 Asian Games for the economy of DKI Jakarta to reach Rp 22 trillion during the period 2016-2018.
The amount is derived from construction investment of Rp 13.7 trillion (2016-2018) and operationalization of Rp 5.8 trillion (2016-2018), and expenditure of foreign and domestic visitors (2018) Rp 2.6 trillion.
"The 2018 estimate of the impact of the Asian Games will increase the GDP by 0.34 percent above the base line, if Jakarta is normal," Bambang said at Bappenas Building, Jakarta, Sunday (29/7).
Visitors of DKI Jakarta is estimated to increase up to 408,400 people with details of 154,069 foreign tourists and 254.332 domestic tourists.
Thus, Jakarta's Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) will increase by Rp 14 trillion (2015-2019), driven by increased investment, government spending and household consumption. The number of job opportunities in 2015-2019 also increased by 57,300 people.
The output of Jakarta's economy in 2015-2019 also increased by Rp 40.6 trillion from the preparation of facilities and infrastructure activities Rp 18.5 trillion, operational activities of Rp 20.9 trillion, and domestic and foreign visitors Rp 1.2 trillion.
Recorded, recreation and entertainment sector grew 26.10 percent, broadcasting sector rose 2.81 percent, hotel sector grew 2.17 percent, utilities 0.57 percent, construction 0.51 percent, other services 0.47 percent, transportation 0, 44 percent, and food and drink 0.40 percent.
Meanwhile, for Palembang, South Sumatera, the direct economic impact is predicted to reach Rp 18.5 trillion from construction investment worth Rp 15.4 trillion (2015-2018), operational implementation of Rp 2.1 trillion, and visitor spending of Rp 968 billion.
Visitors to Palembang are estimated to increase to 175,029 people, consisting of 66,029 foreign tourists and 108,999 domestic tourists.
The calculation of visitor expenditure is based on the assumption of a length of stay of 12 days for athletes and officials, 14 days for media, 6 days of foreign tourists, one day tourists Jakarta and Palembang, and three days for tourists outside Jakarta and Palembang.
The Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) in Palembang will also increase by Rp 4.2 trillion (2015-2019), driven by increased investment, government spending and household consumption. Employment opportunities also increased 51,500 people.
The output of Palembang's economy in 2015-2019 also increased by Rp 11.1 trillion from the preparation of facilities and infrastructure facilities of Rp 9 trillion, operational implementation of Rp 1.6 trillion, and domestic and foreign visitors activities amounting to Rp 439 billion.
Recorded, recreation and entertainment sector grew 34.92 percent, broadcasting sector rose 5.36 percent, hotel sector grew 7.57 percent, utilities 0.74 percent, construction 1.83 percent, other services 0.83 percent, transportation 5, 91 percent, and food and beverages 1.05 percent.
