Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics PG) is known for many things. A strong perimeter defender, aggressive on the boards, and an electric personality when he’s on the court. His numbers don’t always show his importance to the flow of the game, but he can single handedly change the momentum of the game with a fast break steal, deep 3, or heads up assist.

What I’d like to reflect on is Marcus Smart, the Flop God.

Marcus Smart takes the skill of the flop to a whole different level in basketball. Some consider his flopping ability an art form it is so good.

Flopping does not always pay off for him, but when it does, it can have a huge impact. Look at the last minutes of game time against the Houston Rockets own James Harden below. Two times in a row Marcus sells the flop and gets the ball back on both occasions to help the Celtics win from behind.

Marcus Smart is one of the most hated defenders in the league by shooters due to the fact he is quick, aggressive, and can drop in a split second on command. It makes it pretty difficult for a range shooter to get comfortable, and can make the driving lane a terrible place with his ability to take the charge all day.
