It is time for a new sheriff in town! I have accepted the 6th Grade Royal Lions Girls Basketball Coach Position! Now, there is ZERO pay for this job and in fact I will have some out of pocket expenses like a whistle, some new khakis and some fresh Jordan’s. But I am super pumped up to be coaching my daughter, Addison.
I never wanted to push her to play basketball. I didn’t even ask her if she wanted to play. But last year she asked me if she could try out for the 5th grade team. I was so freaking excited. I never thought about actually coaching her. Sure, we like to go to the gym and I try and teach her some skills, but I never was going to be the actual coach.
Unfortunately, her coach was diagnosed with a very severe case of breast cancer and she is fighting for her life. The school reached out to us parents to see if anyone would volunteer to coach the girls this year so another father and I are happy to do it.
The season starts in mid January and I will definitely post some video on here!
Should I full court press right out of the gate? Would recruiting be frowned upon at this level? What about bribing the refs or betting on games? Of course, I am kidding. Well, kind of. I am sure that I can get @brandonk to bet me at least once :-)
