What a wild and crazy weekend for many. There were wins and losses that shouldn’t have been. Some shocking, some just bizarre. The Top 10 remained fairly stable with only a couple of minor blemishes.
Here we go with the Top 10
#1
Alabama 62 – Ole Miss (University of Mississippi) 7
Regular Season SEC West Match-Up
The score in this game was a total shock for me. Ole Miss had the ball first and scored on their first possession! That was the end of scoring for Ole Miss.
When Bama got the ball, it was obvious they could move it at will. The Tide rung up 62 unanswered points on 72 plays! They played every member of the team which is great for getting game experience to younger players. By the 3rd quarter, Bama had the 3rd string quarterback and 4th string lineman, running backs and receivers.
This game had been billed as a game between two high-powered offenses that could strike hard and fast. That was true on Ole Misses first possession, but they never crossed the goal line again.
Alabama put on an amazing show of strength and finesse both on offense and defense. They are a very well rounded team.
Alabama hosts Texas A&M – 9/22/18 at 2:30 pm

Clemson 38 – Georgia Southern 7
Cupcake Game
The biggest thing that happened in this game….. Clemson turned the ball over 3 times. That just doesn’t happen with Dabo Swinney teams. The Tigers didn’t have a 3 turnover game all of 2017 season.
Clemson put up 595 total yards to Georgia Southern's 143. The Tigers completely ruled the playing field except for mistakes. With three turnovers and over 60 yards in penalties. The Tigers will have to clean up their act before going into ACC Conference play.
Clemson will travel to ACC rival Georgia Tech 9/22/18 at 2:30 pm
#3
Georgia 49 – Middle Tennessee State 7
Cupcake Game
Another practice game for the Bulldogs. Georgia racked up 484 total yards against MTSU.
Georgia led 42-7 at the half and was able to play a lot of young guys in the second half. Practice is always good and live game experience is the best.
Georgia scored 40 points or more for the third straight game. Proving themselves to be a formidable foe.
The Bulldogs will travel to Missouri 9/22/18 at 11 am
#4
Ohio State 40 – TCU (Texas Christian University)28
Regular Season Non-Conference Game
The third and last game without the head coach, Urban Meyer.
The Buckeyes trailed the #15 Horned Frogs until the Buckeyes scored 3 touchdowns in 4 minutes! Wow!
Ohio State and their sophomore quarterback, Haskins, threw for an impressive 344 yards and two touchdowns.
The Horned Frogs showed why they had a # 15 rank by putting up 511 yards on Ohio States defense. This game was much closer than what the scoreboard shows. Both teams played clean with less than 40 yards of penalties on each team. The difference was the 3 turnovers TCU committed.
Ohio State will welcome Tulane 9/22/18 at 2:30 pm
#5
Oklahoma 37 – Iowa State 27
Regular Season Conference Game
This game was close in points than it should have been. Oklahoma was unable to cover the 17 point spread.
Iowa St. rallied in the 3rd quarter to come within a touchdown of the Sooners.
Oklahoma was able to gain over 500 total yards of offense, however, their defense allowed the Cyclones to put up 447 total yards. This was a close game that shouldn’t have been. But, it seems Iowa St. always likes to be pesky against conference foe, Oklahoma.
Oklahoma will host Army 9/22/18 at 6 pm
#6
Wisconsin 21 – BYU (Brigham Young University) 24
Regular Non-Conference Game
This weeks first defeat of a top 10 team. And it shouldn’t have been. Wisconsin went into this game a 3 touchdown favorite but only scored 21 points, allowing BYU to score 24 and win.
No other teams outside the Big 10 have beat the Badgers in Wisconsin since 2003. Fifteen years of home-field wins to non-conference foes gone.
The Badgers missed a 4th quarter field goal with 36 seconds remaining that could have tied the game. Remember this field goal. These precious 3 pointers are going to be pivotal in another top 10 game. The Cougars trailed only once during the game following the Badgers second possession. They then tied it 7-7 and never trailed again.
This game was another, shouldn’t have been. The Cougars were a 22 point underdog coming into Madison, Wisconsin.
Wisconsin will travel to Big 10 Rival Iowa on 9/22/18 at 7:30

Auburn 21 – LSU (Louisana State University) 22
Classic SEC West Showdown
I’ve got to get the laughter out of my head before I can write this. Most of you know, Bama fans hate AU fans and vice-versa and some of you know that Pete and my granddaughter is a student at LSU, so I’m almost giddy over this game. Okay, that’s out of the way. On to the game.
This was #12 against #7 so it wasn’t a huge upset. Anyone in the SEC can defeat someone else in the SEC on any given Saturday. We NEVER take in conference rivals for granted. Usually, it is extremely hard to be AU on their home turf, as a matter of fact, it is darn near impossible as evidenced by the Tigers beating both Alabama and Georgia (the two teams in the National championship game) at Jordan-Hare Stadium last year. So for LSU to go into hostile territory and pull out a win is a major feat.
Statistically, this game was fairly even. Both teams had @350 total yards of offense and both teams had multiple penalties with LSU having 91 yards and AU accruing 111 penalty yards. (that was bad)
The difference came with Auburn’s Quarterback, Stidham throwing two interceptions.
Auburn will host Arkansas (another SEC West Conference game) 9/22/18 at 6 pm
#8
Notre Dame 22 – Vanderbilt 17
Regular Non-Conference Game
Vandy went into this game a 14 point underdog but pulled within 5 points in South Bend, Indiana.
This game was close! Only 5 points, 40 total yards, and one first down separated these two teams. The last two of these stats were led by the Commodores. The win for the Irish came down to three Vanderbilt turnovers.
Let me say this once again. The Irish are over-rated. They have no business in the Top 10. Okay, all you ND fans, bring it on. I can back up my claim.
Notre Dame will travel to Wake Forrest on 9/22/18 at 11 am
#9
Stanford 30 – UC Davis
Cupcake Game
This was a sloppy game with Stanford turning the ball over twice and Davis three times. Plus Stanford racked up 64 yards of penalties. If Stanford hopes to stay alive in the Pac-12, they must clean these problems up.
The Cardinals thought so little of FCS UC Davis they played without their star, Heisman runner-up, Bryce Love. Love needed to heal up some “minor” bang-up problems after last weeks game against USC.
Stanford is going to have to clean it up to continue in the Top 10.
Stanford will travel to #20 Oregon for a Pac-12 game on 9/22/18 at 7 pm
#10
Washington 21 – Utah 7
Regular Pac-12 Conference Game
The Huskies were an only 7 point victor traveling to this game in Salt Lake City, Utah
The Huskies defense shut down the Utes offense and caused three turnovers sealing their win in this Pac-12 game. This wound up being a defensive struggle game with UW racking up only 327 total yards.
"We didn't score the points we'd probably like to score, but I know the quality of defense we just went against," Petersen said. "At the end of the day, this is going to give our offense some confidence." (quote source http://www.espn.com/college-football/recap?gameId=401012742)
The Huskies did prove they have one of the better defenses in the Pac-12.
Washington plays host to Arizona St. 9/22/18 at 9:30 pm
That’s it for this week in the Top 10. See you next week!
Bamamama signing off!
