March Madness is here and it is time to prove that you are the best prognosticator on the Scorum Platform. Introducing the 75 SCR March Madness Contest!!!! We are just mere hours away from the March Madness selection show. The whole NCAA world has been watching this weekend as conference championships play out and top teams make the final push for the number one seeds while others battle for a spot in the final 64.

The March Madness selection show will air tomorrow night and we will finally know who the 64 teams are that will compete in the big tournament. We will also know the layout of the bracket and the seedings. Every year the NCAA tournament bracket is one of the most fun and entertaining events of the sports calendar for many sports fans. I personally always fill out a bracket and get into a pool.

I wanted to find a way to bring the excitement to Scorum for us to enjoy together. Rather than have everyone fill out a bracket, I have come up with a system where everyone can compete without submitting a bracket but still have to fill out a bracket.

How to play:

The pool is based on a Points System.

Pool members choose any 12 teams from the final 64 bracket ***We will know the seedings and the bracket by tomorrow night and I will post this for all to see***

There are 6 total rounds in the NCAA tournament including the championship game. There will be points allotted to each round. If a team that you selected gets a win in that round you will get the points associated with that round. The round point will be as follows:

Round 1 - 2 Points (Round of 64)

Round 2 - 4 Points (Round of 32)

Round 3 - 6 Points (Sweet 16)

Round 4 - 8 Points (Great 8)

Round 5 - 10 Points (Final 4)

Round 1 - 12 Points (Championship Game)

Therefore, IF you pick the Championship team, you would get 42 points for that team. The total combined points for all the teams you select will be your pool total. Most points wins!

*** Bonus Points***

Bonus points will be awarded to teams that beat seeds that are higher than themselves in any game. This could happen in any round of the tournament.

Bonus points will be added as follows:

  1. One point for an upset where the seed differential is 4-7
  2. Two points if the seed differential is 8-11
  3. Three points if the differential is 12-13
  4. Five points if a 16-seed beats a 1 seed. (**This could only happen in the round of 16 after that the above rules would apply)

Tiebreaker

The tiebreaker will be the total number of points scored in the Championship game. Once a point total has been selected, it may not be chosen by another participant. The goal is to have the closest score. If two people are equally close, the person who did not go over the total will be the winner. Price is right style.

That is it!! It is that Simple!!

The reasoning behind choosing 12 teams is to give people the opportunity to choose three teams from each region but you are free to choose whatever teams you want.

Prizes

2nd 25 SCR

3rd 10 SCR

***Important Note***

If you are unfamiliar with the NCAA tournament, there is a play in round on Tuesday and Wednesday before the official tournament starts on Thursday. The First Four is a series of play-in games played since 2011. The games are contested between teams holding the four lowest seeded automatic bids and the four lowest-seeded at-large bids. This means that there are a few teams that we will not 100% know the seed for until Wednesday night. Just something to consider.

There will be a post tomorrow night with the finalized bracket and where you can start making your selections. The post will outline how to list your teams. You will have until tip-off on Thursday to make your picks.
