President Lo of the University of Maryland said the University takes full responsibility for the death of Jordan McNair, who collapsed and later died after a football practice in May of this year. The 19 year old suffered an apparent heatstroke.

ESPN reported that the strength and conditioning coach did not follow protocol in applying cold compresses and taking Jordan's temperature after he collapsed. Instead he was instructed to essentially walk it off. Later he died.

The coach DJ Durkin hired the strength and conditioning coach. The S&C coach was forced to quit with severance package. But Durkin is still the head coach.  The coach hired the S&C coach so it doesn't make much sense to me.

What this speaks to is the overall corruption in college sports. Many Americans like to blindly assume and also ignore the vast corruption that takes place in NCAA sports. Americans like to think college sports are the last bastion of pure competitive sports left. Couldn't be further from the truth.

Scandal after scandal whether it's Penn State and Jerry Sandusky or Rick Pitino hiring hookers to lure potential players, the NCAA is very corrupt. Players do not get compensated for their play so betting is another component.

But this situation speaks to the culture of college football. The drill sergeant mentality. And the inability for coaches and staff to account for the differences from player to player. Which is a lack of attention, and caring. One player may respond favorably to being derided. Others not so favorably. Some are physically gifted, some aren't so they need a different regimen. Not recognizing Jordan's condition at the time speaks to lack of attention to detail and lack of caring by the staff. He was 19 years old and still a kid. He trusted the staff to look out for him. His parents trusted the school to look out for him. And they all failed.
