No other conference has been able to send every team to at least one bowl game for the past three seasons than the ACC. It’s where the formidable teams reside, and we’ve seen the rising star that is the Clemson Tigers crush the national field as last season’s champions.

Now that a new season is approaching, it’s expected that the Tigers will top the list of almost all 2019 ACC College Football Rankings. But alongside the champs are these power teams who I think could potentially ambush the bowl this season.

Top Tier

Clemson Tigers

Unless a major setback will occur preseason, there’s no stopping the Tigers from doing what they do best in the field - win. They’ve secured their space at the top for keeping the ACC the winningest among all leagues and helping achieve its eight championship title in 2018 after that landslide 44-16 win against Alabama.

With the return of QB Trevor Lawrence, WRs Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins, and RB Travis Etienne, the Tigers will surely aim for that 2-peat.

Miami Hurricanes

The Hurricanes rose to the 2019 ACC College Football Rankings in a whirlwind. They won their first and only ACC Coastal Division title with a 10-3 overall and 7-1 finish in the ACC in 2017, promising a tight comeback this year. Their only conference loss of the regular season was at Pittsburgh in the final game. And with Head Coach Manny Diaz driving them to an upward slope along with some preseason transfers, the canes will come to ruin defenses.

Mid Tier

Florida State Seminoles

The previous season was a tough pill to swallow for the Seminoles because it’s their first loss in over 40 years. I know, quite a slap, huh. More reason for the team to go into the conference this 2019 with a stronger foundation. They may not be at the top of the 2019 ACC College Football Rankings, but with DT Marvin Wilson, LB Dontavious Jackson, and safety Jaiden Lars-Woodbey, they’re definitely a team to watch.

Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies were a let down in the 2018 conference, and even Justin Fuentes couldn’t save them from Virginia’s disappointment after winning only six games. But their strength in defense and focus on offense-building this year can only mean they’re brewing something to look out for.

Virginia Cavaliers

The Cavs might just sweep the competition without anyone noticing it, but when they do, consider this a heads up. They’ve been consistent this entire series, and while everyone finds it predictable, I think it’s strategic. With head coach Bronco Mendehall banking on Bryce Perkins’ expertise on the field and bringing back eight starters to join the lineup, Virginia can count on tried-and-tested talent and experience to be the sleepers no one knew would rise up.

Low Tier

NC State Wolfpack

Syracuse Orangemen

Duke Blue Devils

North Carolina Tar Heels

Boston Eagles

Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Pittsburgh Panthers

Louisville Cardinals
