Fantasy football is a crazy game because the NFL is a crazy game. Love it or hate it, it's hard to deny its entertainment value and impact on American culture.
We're 33% through the fantasy football season, how are your teams looking? This is where I would normally brag about the performance of my team, but I genuinely feel bad. For the third week in a row, my fantasy team has pulled ahead at the last possible moment to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat. Out of 16 teams, many better than mine top to bottom, I'm the last unbeaten. You're all going to start thinking that this league is rigged!
Whether you're first or last, there's a lot of games left to play and all you have to do is make the playoffs to have a chance to the 1st place prize. Let's get to the recap for this week in the Scorum Fantasy Football League hosted on ESPN.com.
Week 5 Summary
We had a very low scoring week compared to most weeks with only two players breaking 120 points. Going into the Monday night game, I needed to outscore Pete by 16 points and we each had a single player left to take the field. Two touchdowns, two receptions, and 70 yards later and Mark Ingram had given me the slim victory. Sorry Pete!
Despite Todd Gurley and Adam Thielen scoring nearly 58 points, The Bull's supporting players let him down as he suffered a surprising loss.
At the expense of Team Thompson, Team Silwal got their first victory of the year! Now everyone in the league has at least one win.
Standings After Week 5
There are only four playoff spots up for grabs but eight weeks left to earn your place among the best. The margins are tight with each leader having a one-game lead or being tied in the case of Awesome Dawgs and Team Dudmuffin (@swolesome).
Week 5 Awards
Best Team: Red Wings Grinder 139.1
What a week for the Red Wings Grinder. Eric Ebron led the team with an incredible 31.5 points. If only he still played for my Detroit Lions. Drew Brees and Melvin Gordon also pitched in 27.7 and 22 points respectively.
Worst Team: Team Thompson 80.3
Team Thompson didn't have that bad of a week, it's just that none of his players stepped up with a big performance. Mason Crosby missing 4 field goals didn't help either.
Most Unlucky Team: Scorum Legends (@pete) 113.8
It was a tough week for Pete whose players stepped up to the challenge, his team just couldn't hold on when it mattered the most.
Tips for Week 6
Here are my tips for this week in fantasy football:
- Check your team for bye weeks. The Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints have bye weeks which means there will be a lot of teams in need of replacements. If you need to, add a player or two to make sure you can field a full team.
- There were a lot of injuries this past week. Check injury news here.
- Want to see fantasy projections? Here is what players are projected to score (NumberFire).
- Good luck!
