Week 5 SuperContest lines have locked in. The big favorites this week include the Patriots who won and covered the 10.5 points on Thursday night. The Bengals favored by -6.5 hosting the Dolphins who were shellacked by the Patriots 38-7 last week. The Panthers off their bye week favored by a full TD over the Giants. Then the Saints on Monday night favored by 6.5 hosting the Redskins who are coming off their bye week.
I went 2-3 with my picks last week winning on the Broncos +5 and Oakland who eeked out a victory at home in OT over the Browns and managed to cover the 2.5 points. I lost on the Giants, Jets, and Eagles. The Eagles loss was especially frustrating as they held a 2 TD lead in that game but managed to blow it and lose the game in OT.
On to the week 5 picks. The 5 picks I like this week are the Vikings +3, Cardinals +4, Texans -3, Bills +3.5, and Jaguars +3. The Vikings are playing on extra rest week against an Eagles team that played a tough OT game last week. This is also a big revenge spot for them as the Eagles beat them to make the super bowl in the playoffs last season. Another thing against the Eagles is that they have a game coming up this Thursday. The last time this situation played out was the Vikings just 2 weeks ago and they lost outright at home as 17 point favorites to the Bills. I think the Eagles get smacked in this game. Give me the Vikings +3.
The Cardinals are still looking for their first win of the year but they have looked better each week. They nearly beat the Bears two weeks ago and last weeks game went right down to the wire as well. The 49ers lost their star QB 2 weeks ago and put up an emotional effort last week that still fell short as they lost to the Chargers. I think this week the team doesn't put forth nearly as much effort facing a winless Cardinals team. I think the Cardinals break through and pick up their first win of the year in this one. I'm taking the Cardinals +4.
The Sunday Night game features the Texans taking on the Cowboys. Both these teams are off nail biter victories last week. The Cowboys offense has been subpar all year while the Texans actually have an offense that can put up some points. I think the Texans take this game at home and win it by more than 3 points.
In a purely situational play I'm taking the Bills. The Titans are off an emotional win against the defending super bowl champions and this is a letdown spot for them. The Bills proved 2 weeks ago that they're more than capable of playing surprisingly well against a team that comes in and underestimates them. I think the Titans fit the bill this week and they may lose this game outright. I'm taking the Bills +3.5.
In another situational play I'm taking the Jaguars. The Chiefs were down big late in the game on Monday night and had to use up a lot of energy to make a comeback in that game. They were able to get that win and I think their undefeated run ends here against this Jaguars defense that's capable of shutting down any offense. Give me the Jaguars +3.
