Last week I picked 3 of the 4 games correctly getting the Chiefs, Saints, and Rams but missing on the Chargers who were beat by the Patriots in Foxboro. When reassessing that game it's easy to see why the Chargers went in there and laid an egg. They were playing their 3rd road game in a row. They played in Baltimore the week before, flew back to LA, then flew back across the country to play New England. Both the Baltimore game and this past weeks game vs. the Patriots started in the early Sunday time slot which is already a tough spot for a west coast team travelling east.
This week we get the top 2 seeds in each conference facing off and both of these games are rematches of games that occurred earlier in the season. In the first match up between the Rams and Saints the game took place in New Orleans and the Saints triumphed 45-35. In the first game between the Patriots and Chiefs the Patriots played at home and won a game that went back and forth in a shootout 43-40.
(2)Rams (13-3) Vs (1)Saints (13-3)
Let's get to it. NFC Championship game. Rams head to the Super Dome to take on the Saints for the second time this year. Saints are favored by -3.5. Last week the Rams came out and ran all over the Cowboys while the Saints fell behind early and then rallied back and held off the Eagles late in their game. The Saints are 8-1 at home this season while the Rams are 6-2 on the road. One of those road losses came at the hands of the Saints. I feel like these teams are pretty evenly matched and that this game could go either way. In rematches I like to take the side that lost the first time because typically those teams prepare a little better and have the extra motivation to get a win against a team that already beat them once. I think the Rams will be able to use their running game to control the ball and keep Drew Brees and company off the field. I also feel like the Rams defense will be able to slow down the Saints offense this time around, something they weren't able to do in the first game. Score prediction Rams win 27-24 and punch their ticket to the Super Bowl.
(2)Patriots (11-5) Vs (1)Chiefs (12-4)
AFC Championship game, Patriots travel to Arrowhead to take on the Chiefs. The Chiefs are favored by -3 in this game. The Chiefs are 8-1 at home while the Patriots are 3-5 on the road this season. The Patriots looked like world beaters against the Chargers last week but I think this game will be a completely different story. The Chiefs play really good defense at home and they have the best offense in the league which is facing a very suspect Patriot defense. To have a chance the Patriots will need to score, and score often and I'm just not sure they can get that done away from home. The only impressive road victory for the Patriots came in a game against the Bears where their special teams scored 2 TDs for them, their other 2 road wins were against the Jets and Bills. With all that said, the Patriots are still just 1 game away from the Super Bowl and they have the experience to take advantage of any slip ups or chances the Chiefs manage to give them. I just don't think they'll be able to get it done here. I expect the Patriots to fall on the road. Final score prediction Chiefs win 31-24.
So those are my predictions, I say it will be the Rams vs Chiefs in this years Super Bowl which will be a rematch of the highest scoring game of the year, a 54-51 Monday Night Football thriller. If this scenario does indeed come to pass I think the Rams will win the Super Bowl. However any 4 of the match ups are possible so we'll see how it all plays out on Sunday.
Who do you think is going to this years Super Bowl? Let me know in the comments below! Thanks for reading!
