The New York Giants and their star wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. are about to come to terms on the biggest contract for a WR in the NFL. The two sides have been negotiating all training camp and it appears to be official in the next few days.

It was a year to forget in 2017 for the Giants. Eli Manning was constantly running for his life or on his back. He even got benched at one point, which ended his incredible streak of consecutive starts. The running game was non-existent and the offensive line was simply, OFFENSIVE. The rumors were swirling leading up to the NFL Draft that this might be the year that the Giants draft Eli’s replacement in the first round. This was by far the most QB rich draft in years and it seemed like Eli was running out of time. But the Giants front office doubled down on their franchise QB and drafted him some help.

Saquon Barkley would hear his name called by Roger Goodell and the Giants added one hell of an offensive weapon to finally give Eli a running game. Barkley had a phenomenal career at Penn State University and was just as dangerous catching passes out of the backfield as he was running the ball.

The Giants also addressed their terrible offensive line issues and strengthened that up as well. Now the only thing that was missing was a happy and healthy Odell Beckham Jr. ODB only played four games last year due to injury. He caught just 25 balls for 302 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. But ODB put up monster numbers in his first three years. He would catch 90+ passes, 1300+ yards, and 10+ touchdowns in each year.

Although it seems like ODB has been in the league for a long time, the 25 year old is only negotiating his second contract. He was the 12th pick in the 2014 draft after a great career at LSU that included a National Championship in 2011.

So just how much money should the Giants give to their franchise WR? Here is a list of the salaries of the top 10 WRs in 2018:

Antonio Brown $17,000,000

Mike Evans $16,500,000

DeAndre Hopkins $16,200,000

Brandin Cooks $16,200,000

Sammy Watkins $16,000,000

Jarvis Landry $15,100,000

A.J. Green $15,000,000

Davante Adams $14,500,000

Stefon Diggs $14,400,000

I was pretty surprised to see that Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons did not make the top 10 highest paid WRs. He needs to get a new agent, but that is a topic for another day….

The Giants are under the 2018 Salary Cap by $1.5 Million but they have a ton of space over the next few years. They are $33 Million under in 2019, $80 Million under in 2020 and $153 under in 2021. I am sure that the agent for ODB is well aware of that 😊!

I am looking for the several year contract to be north of the $18 Million mark per year. And I hope that ODB can bounce back this year and get back to beast mode on the field with his dazzling one handed catches. With the new offensive line, potential star running back, and a happy and healthy Odell Beckham Jr. can the Giants go from worst to first in the NFC East and make another run at a Super Bowl?

Let me know what you think!
