I am thrilled to announce my 146th Scorum Sports Cast! You can find me @thesportsguru and I will be giving you the best 5-10 minute sports rants here on Scorum every day. On today’s episode I will talk about the rise and fall of Josh Gordon and some record setting news out of the NBA.

Josh Gordon is a wide receiver for the New England Patriots. He has Hall of Fame type talent. But he also has Hall of Fame type drug and alcohol addictions.

Today we learn that Gordon will once again be suspended for failing a drug test. I find this story really sad. This is his sixth or seventh suspension, going back to his college years at Baylor.

Addiction is no laughing matter. I have had multiple friends get stuck on cocaine and heroin. What was once doing some “partying” in college turned into a demon that they could never turn off. Josh Gordon is suffering from that same demon.

Everyone thought that the New England Patriots was the perfect situation for Gordon this year. Stable franchise, coach, and quarterback. His locker is next to Tom Brady’s. And by all accounts, Gordon was great at practice and around the facility. But was does an addict do to occupy their time the other 16 hours a day? That demon is in you. It is in your brain. You are constantly trying to push it away or bury it. But for some people, the demon is just too powerful.

I pray for Josh Gordon. I hope that he can fight off this demon. But it will be chasing him his whole life.

There are lots of stories of drug abuse destroying athletes lives. Lawrence Taylor and Michael Irvin had raging crack and cocaine problems. Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry as well. Josh Hamilton has the most severe that I have ever heard. But Josh Gordon isn’t too far behind. Like Rick James said on and episode of the Chapelle Show:

It other news, it was a historic night in Houston. The dropped bombs all night in a record setting fashion. And don’t look now, but they have won 5 in a row!

I would love to tell you all about it in my new Scorum Sports Cast. To check out my 146th show just click the play button below. I look forward to hearing your input and comments. Cheers!
