What the Canucks are up against.

They game is a tale of two teams going in different directions. Vegas has won 5 straight and the Canucks are struggling.

Mark Stone signed an 8 year contract extension yesterday with the Knights. It's pretty easy to want to stay in a place like Las Vegas over the long term.

Jake Virtanen will be back in the lineup for the Canucks. The injuries have been absolutely killing the Canucks.

Jacob Markstrom vs Marc Andre Fleury tonight. Fleury's next win will get him to pass Jacques Plante on the all time wins list! 8th in NHL history!

The Hockey Night in Canada panel is praising Fleury and Troy Stetcher before the game. Stetcher has quietly been having a good year. He's going to be a really good defenceman for the Canucks for many years. I'm confident he'll be a top 4 defenceman over the long term in Vancouver.

Pregame ceremony- They're talking about organ donation and the Humboldt Broncos bus accident. Logan Boulet of the Broncos passed away and his parents donated his organs. Boulet donated 6 organs to others after his death and his parents do the ceremonial face-off. Quite a story.

Markstrom has a career high 24 wins this season. He's been surprisingly good.

FIRST PERIOD

Stone SCORES- Well, that didn't take long. it's his 29th of the season.

Tuch SCORES- The puck went of his chest and in! You know this isn't your night when....

The Knights are completely out skating the Canucks. This could get ugly real quick.

Eakin SCORES- 3-0 Knights. Yuck.

The Knights are outshooting the the Canucks 11-2 in Vancouver!!!

Elias Peterson goes in on a breakaway, he makes a nice move annnnnnddddd he hits the post. This isn't the Canucks night.

Boeser SCORES!- Yes! 3-1 Knights. Boeser's first goal in 9 games. He scores off a nice tip off a Biega shot from the point. Hopefully this gets Boeser going!

Nosek SCORES- off a tip.Well, the hope from the Boeser goal sure was short lived. 4-1 Knights

Stastny SCORES- Stastny skated right around Edler and made him look bad on that one.

5-1 Knights. This is UGLY! The Canucks finally pull Markstrom. It sure wasn't all his fault, but I didn't see much for big saves from him. Thatcher Demko goes into the net.

END FIRST

That might have been the ugliest period the Canucks have played all year. The game is pretty well over, but being the diehard I am, I'm in for every painful second of this massacre.

Only 1 assist in the last 5 games for Pettersson. Boeser finally scored for the fist time in 9 games tonight. When you have injuries and your best players aren't getting the job done, it's pretty well impossible to win in the NHL.

SECOND PERIOD

The Canucks have more jump to start this period. They've landed some hits and are skating well.

Horvat SCORES!- wrist shot on a 2 on 1! Could this be another Canucks comeback?

Schmidt SCORES- Nope! The puck went in off of Josh Leivo's stick! The Canucks can't catch a break!

Knights lead 6-2.

At least the Canucks aren't giving up. I like the fact the young kids keep skating. At least they can be fun to watch,

Eriksson PENALTY- Trip- The Canucks have the 2nd best penalty kill at home in the NHL.

The Knights hit a crossbar on the power play, but don't score.

END SECOND

The Canucks had a ton of momentum after Horvat scored, but it just died right off after the Knights scored. That was probably the last chance for a comeback.

THIRD PERIOD

Luke Schenn hits the post. Of course, he did. Luke Schenn just recently joined the Canucks and has looked pretty good. Not bad for a guy who was in the AHL just a few weeks back.

Thatcher Demko is looking good. No one here on Scorum should be surprised if he's the Canucks starting goaltender within a couple of years.

Virtanen hits the post. Well, at least the Canucks aren't quitting.

Motte takes a shot on a 2 on 1 and Fleury makes a good save.

Thatcher Demko continues to impress. he makes a big save off of Reilly Smith.

GAME OVER

Fleury passes Jacques Plante on the NHL goalie wins list. It's well deserved.

Looks like Quinn Hughes will be joining the Canucks soon. I remember Dylan Larkin saying he thought Hughes will win a Norris Trophy one day after working out with him over the summer. If Hughes lives up to the hype, at least us Canucks fans will have a reason to keep watching for the rest of the season.

Onto the next game! And hopefully the NHL debut of Quinn Hughes!
