Archery

Recurve men’s individual: Republic of Korea has two archers in the final. The last time two archers from the same NOC were in the gold medal match in this event was in 2002; Hiroshi YAMAMOTO (JPN) beat Yuji HAMANO (JPN).

Ilfat ABDULLIN (KAZ) can give his NOC a first-ever individual archery medal at the Asian Games.

Riau Ega AGATA SALSABILLA (INA) can become the first man from Indonesia to achieve an individual archery medal at the Asian Games.

Recurve women’s individual: Diananda CHOIRUNISA (INA) is the first archer from her NOC to contest an individual gold medal match at the Asian Games, and also the first athlete from her NOC (men and women) to win an individual medal in the sport at the Asian Games.

Compound men’s team: India won its first Asian Games gold medal in archery in the inaugural men's compound team event four years ago, beating Republic of Korea (silver) and Iran (bronze).

Abhishek VERMA (IND) and Rajat CHAUHAN (IND) are competing for successive golds in this event.

Compound women’s team: CHOI Bomin (KOR) can win successive golds in this event.

Artistic swimming

Women’s duets: Twin sisters JIANG Tingting (CHN) and JIANG Wenwen (CHN) have won five gold medals in artistic swimming at the Asian Games, equal to the record held by SUN Wenyan (CHN) and Miya TACHIBANA (JPN).

Athletics

Men’s 110m hurdles: China has won this event at each of the last eight Asian Games, its longest winning streak in a men's athletics event at the Asian Games.

Women’s 800m: Margarita MUKASHEVA (KAZ, 2010-2014) and Hannah SHEZIFI (ISR, 1966-1970) are the only athletes with multiple gold medals in this event at the Asian Games.

Men’s 800m: Bahrain won this event in 2002 and 2006.

Women’s 5000m: Bahrain has won the women’s 5000m at the last two Asian Games. In 2010, Mimi BELETE (BRN) won in Guangzhou. Maryam Yusuf JAMAL (BRN) won in 2014, in Incheon.

Men’s 5000m: Qatar has won the men's 5000m four times, at every other Asian Games since 1990: 1990, 1998, 2006, 2014.

Lakshmanan GOVINDAN (IND) won the 5000m and 10,000m at the 2017 Asian championships.

Women’s javelin: The last four gold medals in the women's javelin throw event at the Asian Games were won by women representing four different NOCs, already a record run.

Badminton

Men’s singles: Indonesia can equal China’s record of seven golds in this event.

Indonesia won men’s singles gold on the previous occasion it hosted the Asian Games. Tan Joe HOK (INA) triumphed in Jakarta in 1962.

Women’s singles: V. Sindhu PUSARLA (IND) is the first-ever athlete (man or woman) from India to compete for an individual badminton gold medal at the Asian Games.

TAI Tzuying (TPE) became the first athlete (man or woman) from her NOC to win a medal in an individual badminton event when she took bronze in this event at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games.

Men’s doubles: Indonesia will extend its record of gold medals in this event at the Asian Games to eight and is the only NOC to have won a medal all 14 previous times this event has been contested.

Indonesia will become the third host nation to win this event at the Asian Games, following Republic of Korea (1986, 2002) and China (1990).

Beach volleyball

Men’s: Neither Indonesia nor Qatar has previously won gold in this event at the Asian Games.

The 2018 Asian Games are only the second Games where China has not appeared in the men's beach volleyball final. In 2002, Japan defeated Indonesia in the final while China finished with bronze.

Cycling track

Men’s team pursuit: At the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, China won the men’s team pursuit to claim a second gold medal in this event, after 2002.

Japan (8) and Republic of Korea (5) have also won the men’s team pursuit at the Asian Games.

Women’s team pursuit: China won the women's team pursuit when the event made its debut at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, beating Republic of Korea (silver) and Chinese Taipei (bronze).

Women’s keirin: LEE Wai Sze (HKG) won the inaugural women's keirin event at the Asian Games in 2014. ZHONG Tianshi (CHN) took bronze.

LEE has won five of the last six women's keirin events at the Asian Cycling Championships. The only exception was 2015, when LIN Junhong (CHN) won the gold medal.

Diving

Women’s synchro 10m platform: China has won all four gold medals in the women's synchronised 10m platform event at the Asian Games.

Men’s synchro 3m springboard: China has won all four gold medals in the men's synchronised 3m springboard event at the Asian Games.

In each of the last three editions of the Asian Games, China finished first, Malaysia second and Republic of Korea third.

CAO Yuan (CHN) and XIE Siyi (CHN) finished second at the 2017 world championships.

Equestrian

Jumping team: Three NOCs have won a gold medal in this event at the Asian Games - Japan (4), Saudi Arabia (2) and Qatar (1).

Abdullah Waleed SHARBATLY (KSA), Abdullah BIN MOTEB AL SAUD (KSA), Khaled Abdulaziz ALEID (KSA), Ryuzo OKUNO (JPN) and Yoshihiro NAKANO (JPN) have all won a record two gold medals in team jumping.

Kurash

General: Kurash is being held at the Asian Games for the first time.

Women’s -52kg: Gulnor SULAYMANOVA (UZB) took this title at the 2018 Asian championships and at the Asian Indoor and Martial Games (2017).

Pincky BALHARA (IND) and Malaprabha Yallappa JADHAV (IND) took bronze in this event at the 2018 Asian championships.

Men’s -66kg: Uzbekistan won gold and silver in this event at the Asian championships in March 2018, as Ruslan BURIEV (UZB) defeated his compatriot Maruf GAYBULLOEV (UZB) in the final.

Men’s +90kg: Jafar PAHLEVANIJAGHARGH (IRI) won the men's +90kg event in kurash at the 2018 Asian championships. PARIKSHIT KUMAR (IND) and LEE Poyen (TPE) took bronze.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Individual all-around: SON Yeon-Jae (KOR) won the individual all-around event in rhythmic gymnastics at the Asian Games in 2014, the first gold medal in this event for the NOC.

SON also took bronze in 2010 and is one of four athletes to have won two medals in this event at the Asian Games. The others are Aliya YUSSUPOVA (KAZ, G1-S1-B0), ZHOU Xiaojing (CHN, G1-S1-B0) and Yukari MURATA (JPN, G0-S1-B1).

Table Tennis

Women’s team: China has won a record nine golds in this team event at the Asian Games.

Japan (1958-1966), Republic of Korea (1986) and DPR Korea (2002) have also won this event.

Men’s team: China has beaten Republic of Korea in the final at each of the last six Asian Games.
