At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 there was an incredible case when all spectators were able to change the results of refereeing.

Chronicle of events

OI-2004, the leader of the Russian national team in gymnastics Alexey Nemov came to the competition in the rank of the favorite and the main contender for medals. In his speech on the crossbar, which is one of the core disciplines of the athlete, he showed fantastic in complexity elements. All of them were executed with excellent cleanliness and elegance. But there was a unique error at the jump - Alexei made a step, which is punishable by writing off about 0.1 points.

After the announcement by the judges of the results, Nemov scored 9,725 and occupied at that time only 3 places. And then the most interesting happened. All the stands stood up as if on command and just started screaming and whistling, never stopping and not letting out the next athlete. Shocked judges and technical personnel did not know how to behave. As a result, the organizers of the competition decided and pressed the judges to review the obviously understated results and deduce another average score.

Nemov put in the end 9.762 and the rostrum exploded again with indignation. It was obvious that Alexey executed a program that is unattainable to any of his competitors. But Nemov went out, thanked all the spectators and asked to calm down.

At that tournament, he took only the fifth place, but after that a part of the judges was suspended from the activity and for the first time in the history of gymnastics, in addition to the evaluation for the technique, they also introduced an assessment for the complexity that took into account each element separately, as well as links between individual complex elements.

Justice exists - the main thing is to be a failure and believe in it!
