As a preparation for the upcoming Asian Games, Samantha Kyle Catantan has been at the World Senior Fencing Championships recently in Wuxi, China.
17-year-old Catantan reached top 64 in Women's Foil after she failed against the 2nd seed and gold medalist Alice Volpi of Italy.
However, before Catalan beat Barbara Ojeda of Spain in 15-13 win in the first round of Direct elimination, she also won two Elimination titles after Eternity's Eline Rentier, 5-4 and Alicia Yi Jeon Kwag of Australia in 5-0 win.
Catantan went home with silver medals from the Southeast Asian Games last year in Kula Lumpur Malaysia.
National coach Roland Canlas has been impressed with the 17-year-old Catantan's performance in the tournament, though it is ready to meet with foreign players in major competitions.
Canlas also believes that Filipino Fencers can keep pace with the country's campaign for the Asian Games this August 18 to September 2 in Palembang Indonesia.
My Opinion About This Article
With the success of Samantha Kyle Catantan in Fencing sports. I think it really gives confidence to the other Fencing aesthetes to strive hard and practice even more so they will able to greatly improve their skills in such sports.
I am sure how proud he is and that he will be a symbol of other Filipino people who are in fencing that they have an edge to compete with other countries. With Southeast Asian Games coming, I am sure that it will be a great challenge for Catantan and other Filipino athletes but with trust on themselves and support from countrymen, I am sure that they will able to surpass such challenges that they will be facing.
I wish good luck to Filipino athletes that will be joining Asian Games that they may bring glory to the country.
