Filipina high jumper grab gold in the ASEAN School Games

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Evangelene Caminong got his first gold medal for Team Philippines during the girls high jump event in 2018 ASEAN Schools Games on Saturday at Mini Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

17-year-old from San Vicente, Palawan recorded a 1.74-meter high to win against her rival Prangthip Chitkhokkruad of Thailand (1.72m) and Alexie Mae Caimoso (1.69m).

Caminong also topped her personal best 1.71 meters.

"I can not believe it. I'm really happy, "Caminong said.

Performance of Caminong is increasingly impressive when defeated by Caimoso in the second event of the 2018 Palarong Pambansa in April in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

As a debutant in the international competition, Caminong insists that she is sufficiently qualified to join the Philippine delegation and that victory will be a bonus for those who trust in her capacity.

She said that at first it was not pressured to win but when the competition came she felt that it was her obligation to do best.

According to the Grade 12 student of the Nazareth School of National University, she has undergone severe training after the Games, in charge of coach Fernando Dagasdas at PhilSports in Pasig City.

Caminong told that this win will serve as an inspiration to other Philippine athletes to strive their best on games that they will be participating.

She also expressed her gratitude for the support of Cong. Jenny Barzaga and Dasmarinas City Mayor Elpidio Barzaga.

She is aiming to support the delegation's delight in his break of 100m hurdles on Tuesday.

It was a great challenge for Philippine players to succeed as they have seen the success of Evangelene Caminong in 2018 ASEAN Schools Games and earned a gold medal. This will be a help motivate all Philippine athletes to practice harder on what sports they are into. As long as players will have both passion and dedication for what they do, they will surely obtain success.
