The Organizing Committee of the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 and its counterpart in Paris, 2024, announced Wednesday their agreement to cooperate to prepare for the Games in Japan within two years and to start laying the foundation stone for the Olympics.

Organizers said they would discuss partnership in several areas, including the exchange of officials, information and language services, promotion of the two sessions and work closely on the flag-receiving ceremony after the end of the Tokyo session.

The two sides will also discuss other possible areas of cooperation between them for the success of the two sessions.

"This is a very important day for us not only because of the win in the semi-finals," said Etienne Toubois, general manager of the 2024 session, referring to France's 1-0 victory over Belgium in the World Cup final.

"But also because we signed this important agreement because after the IOC and the Special Olympics Committee, Tokyo 2020 has become our first partner and we really look forward to working together," he said in Tokyo.

Last year, the International Olympic Committee granted Paris the right to host the 2024 Olympics while Los Angeles won the 2028 Games.
