Some people can over think how to Build a Bankroll and then there are others that will under think Bankroll Management. Building a Poker Bankroll can be as easy as selling something you don’t use, saving from your current income or even playing freerolls at online poker sites. What building a Bankroll really comes down to is actually doing it. Instead of just thinking about it or talking about doing it actually take the steps to build a Poker Bankroll.
Once you have made the decision and taken the initiative to build a “Roll”, Management of you Bankroll is very important. You will go on big winning streaks when it seems easy to manage your Bankroll. But you’ll also go on big losing streaks. Without good Roll Management, you will probably go bust in a big losing streak and have to start all over.
When you follow a few simple equations on when to move up or down in stakes you should be able to handle the bad losing streaks without going broke. There are three types of Bankroll Management, Aggressive, Standard and Conservative. Depending on what type of poker game you are playing (limit, no limit, s&g, multi-table) will also be a factor on your Bankroll Management. The number of buy-ins will vary depending on who you ask. Find one you are comfortable with and go with it. Try not to over think which chart to use and just use one.
For me personally, I like to go the more conservative route. When taking the conservative approach it is a lot less likely that you will go bust and lose your whole Bankroll. Another reason I like the conservative method is that if you want to take a shot at the higher buy-in you can drop down to the standard or aggressive Bankroll Managment styles to do so. If you are playing the aggressive style you can’t choose to play the standard or conservative style without moving down in stakes.
When having a system to manage your Bankroll you don’t have to worry about losing it all. You can just play your game without the stress of going bust. Which may give you an edge over other players.
