Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, August 15th, 2018. Assumption day is a national holiday and a work-free day in Slovenia. Traditionally it is also the day that the city of Kranjska Gora, a well-known ski resort, organizes a running event called Kranjskogorska 10ka or Kranjska Gora 10K Run.
The race is a relatively flat and turn-free event with 5 kilometers run in the direction of Rateče on am asphalt road, closed to the traffic. After the 5-kilometer mark is reached, runners make a U-turn and come back to the finish.
Since the run starts at 6 PM, conditions are usually favorable for the runners when you take into consideration that summer heat is still present and the air is quite humid.
I am a regular at the event. My second fastest 10K time was set here eleven years ago.
This year, as is the case in recent years, I am running slow runs and have no leg speed at all. I take advantage of this race to stretch my legs and remind them of faster days.
The plan was to start at a moderate tempo, keep it constant and finish in under 55 minutes.
The reality was somewhat different. The tempo was fairly constant, yet it was not moderate. Not for my current fitness level. I run the first kilometer in 4:25 and said to myself: "Boy, this is too quick!" Nevertheless, I pushed on and tried to stay on this level. Which I did, surprisingly.
Without any real issues, I managed to finish in a time of 46:55. I was really satisfied with the result. A tempo of 4:41/km without any decent speedwork is a present which I am glad to accept anytime.
You can check my time and lap times on Strava.
You can see that the last kilometer was actually the fastest which is great.
I also managed to run a negative split which means that the second half fas faster than the first.
23:39 versus 23:16.
This is a sign that your speed endurance is at a good level. Or, that you started too slow :)
The official results are available here.
Do check the name of the club where my name is. Do you notice it?

Back to Kranjska Gora run.
I will post some action photos when they become available.
Here I am with Puma before the start.
No, she didn't run with me. I don't want to put here in an awkward position in a crowd.
Mark my retro outfit. This running shirt is 14 years old.
After this brief speed affair, it is time to go back to longer and slower runs and to prepare for long runs in September.
