When I was a new employee just after graduating a college, I often enjoyed horse racing with friends. We forecasted the race before the big racing, went to buy betting tickets and watched the race on TV together. My Betting style is to bet only one ticket, not disperse, so it was so hard to win the racing.
On the day of Japan Derby 1992, I watched the race on TV with my friend as always. I bought only one quinella(dual forecast) ticket, and if hit, would get about 4,000 USD. 4,000 USD is about 2 months salary, quite big money for youth. Immersing myself in the analysis, finding favorite horses, and screaming to TV as crazy, that was my way of horse racing.
Even if I forecasted the races carefully I always was forced to give up to win on the half-way of racing. But that day was different. The horse I forecasted to win showed a great run and kept the lead whole the way. The horse I forecasted to be second came out quickly from a herd and caught up the second at the last straight. Finally, the horse I voted seemed to get second just before the goal! The memory I really can not forget is from here.
Just after finishing, My friend screamed "Congrats Nemo! You won!" But in contrast with the compliment, the voice was stiff and his face was not smiled. I clearly felt he was jealous. It took several minutes until the result is finalized. The final result was my lose. I could not grab 4000 USD only because the rival's nose was slightly longer. Among the remaining excitement, the friend screamed again. "So close, Nemo! You almost won!" In contrast with the words, he was smiled comfortably. He seemed to have enjoyed the racing heartfully!!
You should go gambling alone if you want to do it seriously. Gambling with friends makes you feel awkward when only you win. I felt I was lucky to lose the race when I saw his comfortable smile after the result announced. Because, for me, horse racing was just an attraction to spend good times with my friends.
This video is memorialized racing described here. My vote was No15(Mihono-Burubon) - No5(Mayano-Petorius). Let's be a spectator and join the enthusiasm!
