While working on the BRO SGN website (soon to be released in Alpha) I came upon the issue of linking our media accounts. Font-Awesome was great for our Twitter and etc but that's about it. There is no Font-Awesome icon for Scorum.

I'm more about working than talking so I'll make this short and sweet.

The Problem

Scorum is about quality sports content. Many Scorum bloggers have their own websites and hubs from where they centrally link their social media and blogging accounts. This is a fact.

Font-Awesome is the prime icon repository choice for websites. This is also a fact.

It's a no-brainer to put two and two together.

The above image is from our current footer. The Scorum and Steem icons aren't Font-Awesome icons like the others, they're images. Sure I'll make them look about the same prior to release but I'm a frontend dev. I can make any icon look and act any way I want. If I were a normal user with a personal website who wanted to link his Scorum account, I'd be out of luck.

The Solution

I went ahead and opened an Issue on the Font-Awesome Github requesting a Scorum icon. I picked the distinctive SCR token symbol with the reasoning that:

  • A: It can be recognized as Scorum while linking to blogs (vs the S in the above favicon)
  • B: It can be used to represent the currency itself and act as a label icon vs a social media/etc link

Notes: Font-Awesome does not accept pull requests to my knowledge. I'll amend the icon choice if needed.
