@Mikey's personal opinion on what posts should include the Scorum tag and which can be posted in other categories. This is a controversial topic as posts that others believe should be tagged Scorum and are tagged in a different category in order to make the trending or hot section may lose rewards due to being flagged. Read below and write your opinion in the comment section.

The Scorum community shares several interests, from cryptocurrency to having a passion for sports, but in many ways we all have different preferences and niches we like to spend our time on, from WWE wrestling to boxing to eSports. The one thing everyone here on Scorum shares is an interest in Scorum. Because of this, we can naturally expect to see a lot of posts about the platform. Nearly every well-written post about Scorum carries with it an appeal to the rest of the community, resulting in more views and votes.

During an update a month or so ago, things changed. As posts about Scorum were flooding the hot and trending sections, the Scorum team changed the way posts about Scorum are posted and seen, leaving them behind in a separate category lower on the front page. This change made Scorum posts less valuable in terms of what an author could earn on them. Naturally, some users stopped tagging their posts using the "Scorum" tag to allow them to trend in an attempt to work around the change by the development team.

Let's start by looking at an example of a post that is abusing tags in order to reach a wider audience and avoid being a part of the Scorum category.

Tag Abuse

Abusing the tagging system happens when the Scorum tag is not used when it's the only logical choice. In the post above, @scorumundercover publishes a one-line post about a user on the Scorum platform. Although the post does not in any way relate to sports, this user tags the post with "soccer" and "football" instead of tagging it Scorum. The post was flagged by users and did not receive rewards.

The majority of instances of tag abuse are not this clear. Most of the time it will be up to you to determine if a post is abusing tags or not. I'm attempting to make my position clear and start a conversation that can help all of us (including myself) have a clearer understanding on what the community feels is tag abuse and what is acceptable when it comes to the Scorum tag.

When to Always Use the Scorum Tag

Posts that are clearly about Scorum and only Scorum, and only of interest to the Scorum community should be tagged "Scorum" in my opinion. For example, the post that you are reading right now is a clear example of a post that should be tagged "Scorum." It's about the Scorum community and for the Scorum community with nothing to do with the other categories available to choose from.

The post shown above, WhyJoin Scorum Today? A Crash Course & My Story, is also an example of a post that I personally believe should be tagged "Scorum." I think you could make an argument that this post could also be featured in "innovations" since it's about the platform as a whole, but at its core, it's about Scorum for people on Scorum (both current and future users).

When You Can Leave Out the Scorum Tag

Posts that include information about Scorum and/or the community but are more relevant to a different category can (in my opinion) qualify for that category's tag instead of "Scorum." The issue with this idea is that it's completely subjective. While I might see a post as being more about Scorum than another tag, the author may disagree.

In the post above, witness and community member @stimp1024 wrote about an exciting competition that the Steem Betting Community is hosting to welcome in the new Scorum betting platform. While the post is about Scorum, it's about betting and the betting platform, which is why it was tagged "betting."

In short, I don't feel that every post that relates to something on Scorum should be tagged Scorum. If you share your fantasy sports lineup in a post and detail why you chose each player, you shouldn't have to tag that post "Scorum" just because that fantasy team was created on Scorum's fantasy sports platform. This would discourage users from sharing posts that help promote the platform to other audiences.

What Do You Think?

As I mentioned several times, this is simply my opinion. I want to hear from you. What do you feel about my thoughts on using the Scorum tag? Please post your opinion below.
